Alessandro Papotto is an Italian Composer and Multi-Instrumentalist.
He studied at the Rome Conservatory “Santa Cecilia” where he earned:
– Diploma in Clarinet;
– Diploma in Chamber Music;
– Diploma with Full Marks in Composition;
– Degree with Honors in Jazz Composition;
– Degree with Honors in Film Music Composition.
He also attended Composition Masterclasses with Nicola Piovani, Giorgio Battistelli, and Enrico Pieranunzi, and earned a Master’s Degree in Film Music Composition at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Cinecittà.
From 1999 to 2014, he was a member of the historic rock band BANCO del Mutuo Soccorso as a saxophonist, clarinetist, and flutist. With this band, he recorded several albums released by Sony Music such as “No Palco” (2003), “40 Anni” (2012), “Darwin! Live” (2013), and “Un’idea che non puoi fermare” (2014), and performed during the band’s tour in Europe, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Panama, Brazil, and Japan.
His concert activity continues as a soloist and as First Clarinet in numerous symphonic orchestras such as “Orchestra Sinfonica del Terzo Millennio” conducted by Renato Serio, “Santa Cecilia Jazz Orchestra” conducted by Paolo Damiani, “Fiati Italiani” conducted by Eugenio Colombo, and many others. He performed as a soloist in the soundtracks of famous films directed by Paolo Virzì including “Caterina in the City” (2003), “The First Beautiful Thing” (2010), “Crazy Joy” (2017), “Five Seconds” (2025), in films directed by Francesco Bruni, Riccardo Milani, Edoardo Falcone, and for Mario Tronco & Gianfranco Cabiddu‘s “The Magic Flute of Piazza Vittorio” soundtrack that won the David di Donatello Award in 2020.
He wrote the original music for the theatrical performances “Sarà presto sera e sarai interrogato sull’amore” by Davide Aricò (2013) and “Il volo dell’Albatros” (2018) by Angela Villa, the soundtrack for the film “Un giorno di lavoro” (2010) produced by Cineteca Italiana, the soundtrack for the documentary “In viaggio nella Basilica di Sant’Elia” (2019) produced by Carivit Foundation, and the soundtrack for the documentary “Fellini e il Sacro” (2020) produced by Salesian Pontifical University. He also wrote original symphonic jazz compositions for Santa Cecilia Jazz Orchestra, and several original symphonic classical compositions commissioned by Orchestra Sinfonica Città di Roma like “Tempus Fugit”, “Abiogenesis”, “Sol Invictus”, etc.
